    • “Every industry member knows how important it is to stay current with trends and developments. Tony Lehman of Hudson Parrott Walker is going to help with that task in this presentation, as he is going to cover key changes in Florida law that affect the precast industry as well as current trends in risk management. You should attend this session only if you want your company to be sure it gets paid on projects or if you are concerned about the emerging risks that could cripple your plant.” Tony will also discuss “recent developments” update on the overhaul of notice of non-payment statute, specifically with reference to “overstated” claims. The new legislation creates the concept of a “fraudulent notice of nonpayment” similar to a fraudulent lien.

  • 1:00 PM – 2:00 PM – Industry Training – Glenda Diaz Acosta, Graduate Research Assistant, UF Department of Civil & Coastal Eng. (Santa Margherita Room)

    • Ms. Glenda will cover the evaluation of the effectiveness of steel and macrosynthetic fibers to control end region cracking. Five Florida I-beams were constructed using fiber volume ratios of 0.3%, 0.5% and 0.7%. Monitoring of end region cracking was conducted for a period of 150 days following prestressed transfer. She will discuss the effectiveness of FRC at controlling end region cracking along with typical reinforcement resulted in reduction of maximum crack width up to 50%. Furthermore, fibers at 0.7% volume fraction combined with reduced end region reinforcement was more effective than typical end region reinforcement at maintaining crack widths smaller than 0.006 in.
