The Florida Prestressed Concrete Association (FPCA) Education Foundation (Foundation) is sponsoring scholarships for deserving students pursuing careers related to the precast, prestressed concrete industry. Precast, prestressed concrete-related careers include professional positions in manufacturing facilities, architectural firms, the specifying community, structural engineering firms and the construction industry.
This scholarship is for students starting a 2-year Program, Certificate Programs or entering third academic year or higher at a college/university who are interested in careers related to the precast, prestressed concrete industry.

RULES & REQUIREMENTS
Applications are open to Florida residents who will be enrolled in a certificate program or an undergraduate program at an academic institution anywhere in the US for the next academic year following the application deadline. The applicant’s course of study should be in an academic field related to civil, structural, architectural, building design, construction, or precast, prestressed concrete design. Applicants must be continuously enrolled in a certificate program or a two- or four-year degree program. The academic institution may be either a four-year college, a state/community college, or a technical vocational school with a recognized related course of study.
To guarantee the application will be reviewed by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees, please include the following materials:
- Previous semester (Fall or Spring) grades prior to the date of application.
- A 300-500 word essay. At a minimum, the essay should answer why you should be selected and why you choose this industry.
- A letter of recommendation from the student’s previous college professor/faculty.
Once you have been selected, FPCA Executive Director will work with you to secure an internship opportunity with an FPCA Producer (Producer) Member considered to be in good standing. Internship must be completed at end of first year of receiving scholarship money and to be eligible for the following year. Recipient will work with the Producer on an internship schedule.
Students who are starting or currently in their third academic year or higher are eligible to apply. Awarded recipients will receive up to $2,500 ($1250 for Fall and $1250 for Spring) for their first qualified semester or year. For the fourth academic year, the recipient will receive up to $3,000 ($1500 for Fall and $1500 for Spring). Students requiring a fifth academic year to complete their degree can petition for additional scholarship monies by contacting the FPCA Executive Director. Money for the fifth academic year shall be determined by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees. For 2-year or certificate programs, students may be eligible when starting their first academic year and will receive up to $2000 and $3000, respectively. Graduate-level students may apply for Board of Trustees consideration.
To continue to be eligible from year to year, students must be re-approved by the Foundation’s Board of Trustees through a short, end-of-year interview via online or face-to-face and intern with a Producer for a minimum of 240 hrs (6 wks) for the previous academic year. The internships may be completed with a single Producer or with several different Producers. Receipt of the FPCA Foundation scholarship is not an offer of employment. Any agreements regarding pay, benefits, job responsibilities, etc. are strictly between the student and their Producer. Obtaining a new Producer is the responsibility of the student.

Securing an internship position with a Producer must be completed by end of the first year of receiving scholarship money. This is the sole responsibility of the recipient. Failure to secure an internship position for whatever reason shall terminate future scholarship monies.

The internship/employment relationship between the student and the Producer is to be negotiated and entered by and only between such parties. The FPCA and FPCA Education Foundation expressly assume no responsibility or liability in connection with or arising out of the terms and conditions of the internship or employment relationship between the student and the Producer, including, but not limited to, compensation, benefits, or termination for any reason.

The student must be continuously attending an accredited institution of higher learning or certificate program.

The student must be pursuing a course of study in a field that is related to civil, structural, architectural, building design, construction, and/or precast, prestressed concrete industry-related field.

If the student changes majors or programs after the scholarship application has been submitted or after the student has been awarded a scholarship, the student must contact the Foundation in writing within 30 days. The Foundation will review the student’s new major and career goals to determine if the student is eligible for the remainder of the scholarship monies. Failure to notify the Foundation may require students to refund all ineligible monies.

Students must be enrolled full-time continuously. Degree students must maintain a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester of enrollment or maintain the minimum number of credit hours to be considered full-time for quarter systems. For certificate programs, students must be enrolled full-time per the school’s requirements. (If the student is enrolled for less than 12 credit hours, but is working while going to school, the student is eligible to apply for a scholarship. Please include a letter from your employer confirming your work status as part of your application.)

The student must submit the previous semester’s grade report and upcoming class schedule before the next installment will be mailed. Payment is made at beginning of each semester.

Scholarships awarded will be divided with each half being paid at the beginning of a semester (August/ September and December/January). If the application is received in the Fall, the student is only eligible for money in the Spring. The student will not receive payments until grades and class schedule have been received and all criteria have been met.

The student must meet a cumulative grade point average of 2.8 on a 4.0 grading schedule. Should the student fall below 2.8, the student will be placed on probation for one semester, and the student will not receive payment for the academic probation term. Should the student’s grades not meet the 2.8 average for two consecutive terms, the scholarship will be forfeited.

If the student follows an internship program prescribed by the academic institution and is part of the student’s academic curriculum, this will be considered a term of study. For scholarship payment to be made, the student must still complete an internship at an FPCA Producer Member plant, as described above.
The completed application must be submitted to Mr. Diep Tu two (2) weeks prior to the end of the current semester, to the Foundation office at 239 Calliope St., Ocoee, FL 34761, or via email to in**@my****.org to be considered for the following semester monies.
The Foundation Board of Trustees reserves the right to close the application process at any time. Applications will be reviewed by the Foundation Board of Trustees, and students will be notified by mail of the Board’s decisions. The Board’s decision is final.
