Background

Clearwater Station, Fire Station 45, was built in 1974 and was no longer meeting the needs of the fire personnel including spacing, code standards, security needs, and sustainability standards. The City decided they needed a more sustainable facility that could centralize fire operations.

Replacing the former station in another location, this new mixed-use station and municipal building is designed to be both functional and aesthetic, reflecting the needs of the firefighters who spend extended periods of time in the building and those of the surrounding community.

The building headquarters the city’s fire department, and includes four vehicle bays, offices and living quarters. Crew members reside on the second floor with administrative space located on the third.

Designed to streamline services and promote collaboration among departments, the Fire Prevention and Inspection Division is also based out of the station, as are the district chiefs for emergency management, special operations and health and safety.

The new station is 10,000 SF larger than the original building and is able to withstand a Category 5 hurricane. Clearwater Station was also designed achieve an LEED Silver rating.
